Toolshed Bandsaw – 350mm

Packaging: The packaging was good, and there was just about too much the leg parts carefully wrap in paper to stop scratching and the fence, and table mitre guide as well.

From the little I have used it it so far is a great machine and hopefully will serve me well for long time.

I got what is classed as a 14inch Band saw which means it is big enough to do a bit of re-sawing but yet small enough to cut fancy shapes without a problem.

  • Max cutting width 335 mm – 13.2 inches
  • Max cutting depth 200 mm – 7.8 inches
  • Wheel Diameter 350 mm – 13.8 Inches
  • Band Length 2490 mm – 948.5 inches
  • Motor Wattage 750w
  • Voltage 230v
  • Size 1680mm H 710mm W 560 D
  • Table size 595mm W 500mm D
  • Table height 1000mm
  • Net weight 85 kg

This bandsaw is ideal for the serious woodworker and light industry, it features a cast aluminum ripping fence with quick locking which locks front and back for greater accuracy.

A robust mitre guide is also included which can be adjusted between 0 and 45 deg.

A tilting table is also featured with a graduated degree scale behind it which is lockable front and back for greater accuracy, This saw features bearing mounted single piece cast wheels with in and out adjustment to track the blade.

Also in included are bearing blade guides top and bottom for pin point accuracy when cutting.

Down the bottom there’s a 100mm dust extraction port to keep the sawdust away from the wheels. A two speed facility which enables it to do 1400 and 1700rpm allowing you to select the best speed for your material.

I have used on various projects now and love it. It is a great bandsaw and it is easy to setup and use, the bearing blade wheels for tracking are good and easy enough to adjust. Overall worth it. I am glad I did not go for the smaller brother. I have to admit though I need to get a few more blades as I only have a 1/4inch 12tpi for tight ish work and a 1/2 8tpi blade for re-sawing but need a few others

March 7th 2020 Motor died on the bandsaw. I haven’t had time to get it looked at and I am also wanting to upgrade to the Carbatec bandsaw that has a slighter more powerful motor as every now and then this one was slightly under powered. So I have not decided what to do yet.

Bandsaw Upgrade

In April 2021 I decided to upgrade the mitre gauge and fence on my bandsaw with the Kreg Precision Mitre Gauge System and Kreg Precision Bandsaw Fence.

Bandsaw purchased from : The Toolshed

Bandsaw Box

Have new bandsaw, what the first thing one has to make? A bandsaw box of course.

Find decent bit of wood to make it from… done

Cut out base shape. Then resaw and cut back off.

Cut out draw.

Glue back on…

Cut back off the draw the cut out the inner draw.

Add draw pull

the wood filler is to hide the kerf of the blade cut the best we can.

Stain with Rosewood stain.

Idea and to do list.

This to-do list is constantly changing and evolving as is being updated. I can’t guarantee video’s on all projects, but most will at least get a photo on Instagram or Facebook etc. With this list some will be photo blog only, some might be a youtube video, some might not be worth it.
Side note: This list has been around evolved in one state or another for some time and goes back 4 or 5 years.

Making stuff with James.

So had my nephew (11) around for the day, and he wanted to make something for grandad, and it turn out to be a fish I guess he likes fishing, I am not 100% sure. So we made a fish, and we put it on a pole and made look like it was jumping out of the river.

He is going to take it to Nan’s and paint it (or stain it) with her when grandad is not there… and then give it to grandad. It is made out just scrap pine and a bit Dowel I had laying around the shop.

I then said while we were sanding the trout, what about making something for your Dad, he said yes… but he wasn’t sure what so during our lunch break Xaria said “What about Number one Dad” James like that so we shortened it to “#1 Dad”

We made it with the scrap rimu wood and put a clear lacquer on it. Dowel holding to the base with a tight fit so no glue no squeeze out and drying time.

James helped with the design, also he with cutting (with my guidance) on the bandsaw and scroll saw. He did a lot of the sanding by hand.

The Drunken Woodworker – David Picciuto

David Picciuto from The Drunken Woodworker started by doing the popular Weekly Woodwork Wrap Review where he points to other makers and their projects. Then he started making some projects videos and now he does this full time. As he says below… lucky

Interview

Intro
My name is David Picciuto otherwise known as the Drunken Woodworker. I make videos and blog about small crafts other woodworkers can make in a weekend and sell on Etsy and craft fairs.

Stats

I make my living creating YouTube videos and blogging about woodworking. I consider myself a professional blogger and amateur woodworker.

Shop size

I work out of my basement with very low ceilings. 45% of the basement is used for a rehearsal space for my rock band, 10% is used for the laundry area and the remaining 45% is the workshop. It’s small but it gets the job done.

https://drunkenwoodworker.com/shop-tour

How long have you been woodworking?
I’ve been woodworking for almost 4 years if you don’t count shop class in High School back in the early 90s. I’ve become obsessed and try to learn something new everyday.

Day Job
YouTubing and blogging is my day job! I’m one lucky man.

Can you remember your first project and what it was?

My first project that wasn’t a shop cabinet was a small ugly bandsaw box. My wife now keeps it on the night stand.

Bandsaw box’s that are now being made.

Bandsaw box’s that are now being made.

What made you decide to start producing online content? (blog or video)

Before I was a full-time blogger I was a web developer so creating a website about woodworking came natural for me.

What was your first video project?
My first video project was how I put together my motorized lazy susan. I’m still getting views and comments on it. It needs to be redone and explained better. Maybe someday.

What is your favorite project you have made so far?
Usually my favorite project is the one in progress but if I had to pick a past one it’s my recording studio cabinet: https://drunkenwoodworker.com/projects/recording-studio-cabinet-made-maple-and-walnut

Cabinet

Do you have a favorite tool, if so what is it?
My favorite tool is the computer. I start out my designs with paper and pencil and once I’m happy with a look I start drawing it up on the computer. My favorite parts of any project is the design phase and the showing it off phase.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

Inspiration comes from all around. I love architecture and will take mental notes and photographs of buildings to use as ideas in my projects. Also, lets all agree that mid-century modern was the best design era of all time, right?!?!

Speaker boxes

What advice would you give someone that may want to start making things?

Don’t buy tools you don’t need yet! Come up with a project and buy the tools you need to complete that project.

Fun Fact
I have never had a taco. Double true.

Tools I use

I get a lot of PM’s and emails asking about which tools, cameras, services I use to make my projects & video’s. So I in my very limited wisdom I thought I would just put them all in one place so that I could direct people this list. I’ll do my best to keep this updated as I replace tools. If you have any other questions, let me know! I can’t show links of all tools where I bought them as some of the tools I use are no longer being supported by where I bought them (because they are that old) but I will put a link to as many as I can.

I would also like to point out that I bought all my tools with my own money unless otherwise stated. Also I am not putting this list here to show off or anything it is mainly here as a list for insurance purposes as well as people ask. (Not all tools listed are for woodworking).
