Tool Brands

So when I buy a DeWalt, am I getting a DeWalt or another brand? As many people already know, most tools are now made tin the same factory as another brand or multiple brands.

Example is AEG Tools which is own by “TTI” a Hong Kong based company. TTI also have a licensing agreement to produce hand-held tools under the Ridgid brand for Emerson. This is why AEG and Ridgid tools look so similar. because they basically are the same. TTI also make tools for Ryobi and “Milwaukee Tools”

What about DeWalt, surely they are independant… Well Stanley Tools and Black & Decker tools merged to make ” STANLEY BLACK & DECKER” who not only make Stanley Tools and Black & Decker tools but also DeWalt, Porter Cable, Craftsman, Bostitch and Sidchrome as well as Irwin.

Bosch, Skil, Freud (and Diablo), Dremel, RotoZip all owned by “ROBERT BOSCH GMBH” Another example is “JPW” Make Jet Tools Powermatic, Wilton, ToolAir and ProMac.

AllTrade own PowerBuilt, Kawaski and have licenses for SnapOn. Hitachi also own Metabo. Positec own Worx and Rockwell. Ramset and Paslode own by ITW…. and the list goes on. Makita is about the only company that is the parent company though they do have another brand called Makati.

So before you go one about this brand is better than that brand… remember that many brands are one and the same using the same factories and molds just rebadged. The main difference between some of these inter-brands is usually better bearing, bushes and little other bits and pieces.

I have seen a Ryobi drill build a deck screwing in over 3000 screws with out missing a beat and seen DeWalt die after 2 weeks of lite use. They all have there good and bad points about them so I say buy to what meets your needs and budget.
