Long Clamps

We are starting to think about making the french doors for the bar, and will have to do most of it at work as I simply don’t have the room at home to do it anymore… sad but true 😥

We have already cut the the timber into lengths and ready to router out the dado and rebate etc, I have the acrylic for the window and the Hayden asks “how are you going to clamp it length ways?”

Test setup ready for the french doors.

Now before you ask I am using some laminated wood to make the lengths, but because of the lamination to stop any bowing effect we have to run with the grain of the wood so the shorter sections (top and bottom of the door) have the grain going across the width of the door (full width) this is normal any way not not full width of the door… and the sides the grain is going down the length. If we has solid timber  then the assembly would be as normal the full length with the top and bottom cross bits in between. If that makes sense. This would mean that the clamps would only have to reach width 900mm not height of 2000mm (ish). I don’t have clamps that long and the longest at my hardware store (in stock) is only 1800mm… ay $99 each “ouch…!  ummmm 😈 “

We ummm and arrrrghed over it, considered bolting two clamps together to give the length etc..  till I decided wait…

Bolt the sash clamps to the bench with a spacer in between them that is also screwed to the bench. Now all we need is a stop block and rest at the other end screwed to the bench and you have a clamp as long as your bench…
